For many holidays now, the pandemic has made gathering together a near impossibility. Our offline and online photo albums are emptier for it. With vaccinations and boosters widely available, it is time to finally make up for those missed photo opportunities. Shannon R. Stevens Photography, an Indigenous woman-owned business, is available for portraits, events and more. A still photographer for over 30 years, Stevens is also a videographer and FAA-certified drone operator who can capture incredible images you won’t get from other photographers. Book online now, and tell your loved ones you’ve got something special for them to look forward to in 2022.
Don’t show up empty handed at your holiday parties this year. Pick up a bottle of Nikle Co. Spirits at any of the stores listed on their website. Founder and CEO Nicole Kapnison says that her spirits are inspired by Demeter, the Greek goddess of harvest and agriculture and are “crafted as a tribute to all the women distillers who founded the art of distillation.” So far, so good! Her spirits have won multiple awards including gold medals at both the 2021 New York World Wine and Spirits Competition and the 2021 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
The new year is a time many people make resolutions to lose weight, add muscle or gain endurance. Gift the so-resolved in your life a gift certificate for something different. Extensively experienced and credentialed trainer Wendy Stephens (Live and Try Training) consciously counters the stigma that to try is not good enough. She says, “Trying is purposeful effort that operates in the reality of our truth in the moment we find ourselves. It does not chastise falling short of a goal, but applauds the continuous bravery of approaching each day with hope and a plan of action.”

Need a gift for someone in your life who prefers to give rather than receive? Make a donation in their name! As an Autistic woman, I was psyched to learn about Wilderwood Equine Therapy and Rescue just outside Albuquerque. Wilderwood’s equine-assisted curriculum helps Autistic people “strengthen self-perception and self-possibility, achieve career and employment goals, and embrace and celebrate the innate connection between horses and autistics.” The curriculum is designed and led by co-founder and Executive Director Dr. Rebecca Evanko, Ph.D., an Autistic woman herself. Wilderwood also gives unwanted horses a home and educates the community about horses and autism.

Get a gift now that will give someone a present to look forward to all seasons. Opened this year by Jennifer Esquivel, Jennifleurs is a flower business run out of Eunice, a seafoam green 1968 Volkswagen Double Cab Transporter. From April through November, the truck is at Albuquerque hotspots like breweries, shops and markets. Jennifleurs also offers flower delivery services, a subscription club and weekly arrangements and table vases to businesses. The truck can even be rented (with or without flowers) for private events and photos.
