The Nature Conservancy Hires Laguna Member As First Indigenous Program Director

John’s humble beginnings were baptized by the fire of the forest as he came up as a young man working with the various Pueblo Fire crews. The Pueblos have a long storied history of forest fire fighting, providing crews for decades. John fresh out of NMSU, a degree in hand started his journey, “I went to the BIA and started fighting fires during the summer. And I got to like that, and it was a challenging job, but I thought, you know, wow, this is like something I’d like to continue doing, being out in the forest and traveling and just being, being in the forest is what really captured my interest.
