Everything you need to start planning that Spring garden
Hear that? That’s the sound of birds chirping, which means Spring has arrived—despite the still frigid mornings and blustery days.
This week we’re bringing you some good old-fashioned tips for getting that garden going. We caught up with the owners of Rehm’s Nursery and Garden Center for some basic tips on planning and planting.
For readers who might want to try their hand at a more “adult” garden, our cannabis writer Josh Lee has some tips on how to get that groovy garden growing.
We’ve also got some great information about both shade and ornamental trees in New Mexico, as well as some important updates on planting zones.

P.S. Spring also means the beginning of baseball season, so I naturally had to preview all the new food items the Albuquerque Isotopes will be serving at games this year.
What are YOU doing this weekend?
With more than 100 different food, art, and community events, The Calendar at The Paper is ABQ’s biggest list of things to do.
- If you’re looking to unwind from the week with some laughs, make sure to catch comedian J.C. Currais at Quezadas Comedy Club Friday night.
- Looking for more gardening tips and tricks? Hit up the Albuquerque Open Space Visitor Center on Saturday morning to learn about composting with worms.
- What’s better than some good ol’ Americana music and beer on a Sunday afternoon? Not much. Scratch that foot stompin’ itch over at Canteen Brewhouse on Sunday where local legends Porter Draw will be playing on the patio.
Not into any of that? Check out all these events at venues from on the Westside, Downtown, Corrales, Heights and more…
