I enjoy supporting artists who make vending-ready items—they get it.
Vending machines, it seems, transcend generational boundaries. They may have changed over the years, but even the youngins are at least familiar with the idea of giving money to a machine for a bottle of sugary goodness. Snack vending machines with those familiar dispensing coils are not as ubiquitous these days though. Even less common are vending machines with trinkets, knick knacks and everything in between. Some readers may already be familiar with The Wyrd Machine parked Downtown at Sister, but our featured story this week from Hakim Bellamy is all about The Wyrd Machine’s proprietor Marya Errin Jones.
We’ve also got some big news about two comedy forces coming together: The Box Performance Space and Dry Heat Comedy Club will soon share a building.
Thanks to our straight-laced friends over at City Desk ABQ, this week’s issue also has a great read about vacant buildings Downtown and how they irk both owners and regulators alike.
Of course there’s a whole bunch of other important news stories you should all check out over at the City Desk ABQ website.

P.S. I’ve got some tickets for the upcoming Hump! Film Festival happening next weekend at The Guild Cinema. This is definitely not a kid-friendly event, so neither is this giveaway. But, if you want a couple of tickets, drop me a line with your best entry for Weak in Review. The two funniest submissions will earn a pair of tickets to any showing of your choice. Just reply to this email or send your best tongue-in-cheek take on something in the news to editor@abq.news.
Bonus:Coyote Cage, a film sprung from the mind of our very own Devin O’Leary is now streaming on Prime Video. You can read more about the film here.

What are YOU doing this weekend?
With more than 100 different food, art, and community events, The Calendar at The Paper is ABQ’s biggest list of things to do.
Some of our favorites:
- Fans of the iconic Celtic band The Pogues will gather this Saturday at The Historic Lobo Theater for a A Tribute to Shane McGowan.
- If you’re planning out your spring and summer garden, consider swinging by the Albuquerque Garden Center on Saturday where the The Xeric Garden Club of Albuquerque is hosting a talk about Adventures with Hardy Cacti and Succulents for Central New Mexico.
- Round out your weekend with a Sunday afternoon showing of a “The Odd Couple,” with female leads over at the Adobe Theater.
Not into any of that? Check out all these music events at venues from on the Westside, Downtown, Corrales, Heights and more…
