‘I’ve raised my kids in this culture. We are familia.’

As the legendary author Maurice Sendak wrote: “In March the wind blows down the door.” March is delivering that promise so far this year, with added winter-like weather. But not even blustery conditions stop Albuquerque’s lowrider community from coming out in droves. This week, thanks to our friends at City Desk ABQ, our featured story is all about that community.

If you’re looking for some grub to warm up, check out the latest review of Don Choche from our food writer Kevin Hopper. Spoiler alert: It’s a hit.

We’ve also got a a story this week (again from the fine folks at City Desk ABQ) about a subject near and dear to me: Journalism! New Mexico is now part of a $500 million effort to rebuild and revitalize local news around the country, which is music to my ears.

What are YOU doing this weekend?

With more than 100 different food, art, and community events, The Calendar at The Paper is ABQ’s biggest list of things to do.

Of course, Sunday is St. Patrick’s Day, so here are some staff picks for how to celebrate (responsibly, of course):

  • For a family-friendly event, check out Revel Entertainment Center’s St. Patrick’s Sunday Funday. They’ll have festive music and a whole slew of local eateries on site.
  • For a more rowdy scene, check out St. Punktrick’s Day at the Launchpad on Sunday night.
  • Canteen Brewhouse has a double whammy on Sunday. Go for Music on the Patio, featuring Celtic rock band The Reelers for more jigs and drinking songs than you can shake a shillelagh at. Stay for St. Patrick’s Day karaoke.

Not into any of that? Check out all these events at venues from on the Westside, Downtown, Corrales, Heights and more…
