Nosferatu w/ Live Score by Invincible Czars (Friday/5, Film)

Nob Hill’s Guild Cinema (3405 Central Ave. SW) welcomes back Austin’s The Invincible Czars. Utilizing an eclectic mix of electronic and acoustic instruments – violin, glockenspiel, organ, flute, bass clarinet, voices and vocals, music box, loops, electric guitar, bass, piano and percussion – this four-piece band has been constructing intricate and eerie live soundtracks to classic silent films since 2015. On Friday, Sep. 5 at 7 p.m. F.W. Murnau’s 1922 horror classic Nosferatu will unspool inside The Guild to the sounds of the Czars. Tickets cost $20 and are available now at guildcinema.com/movies/nosferatu-(1922)-with-a-live-invincible-czars-score.
20th Anniversary Roller Derby Bout (Saturday/6, Sports)

Elevated Roller Derby (founded in 2005 as Duke City Roller Derby) celebrates its 20th anniversary of slamming’ and jammin’ with a special roller derby match between our state’s newest home teams. There will be some special games, trivia on the mic and a surprise halftime performance to mark the occasion. The 20th Anniversary Roller Derby Bout action starts up Saturday, Sept. 6 at 6 p.m. at the Heights Community Center (823 Buena Vista Dr. SE). Admission is $10, but you can get in for half price simply by wearing any Elevated Roller Derby team or league shirt. (Time to break out my vintage Doomsdames T-shirt!)
Trey Gunn & David Forlano (Saturday/6, Music)

New Mexico-based guitarist Trey Gunn (formerly of legendary prog rock outfit King Crimson) has teamed up with Santa Fe musician and couture jeweler David Forlano to form a new musical duo. They will be playing the first of three New Mexico shows this Saturday, Sept. 6 at Echos (313 Gold Ave. SW) alongside Middle Eastern free jazz/hard rock band Love Unfold the Sun. The show starts at 7 p.m. and promises plenty of “hyper-refractive, avant-psychedelic” guitar riffs. Tickets are $15 at the door. These three live shows are all leading up to the band’s first album release party at FUSION (708 First St. SW) in December.
