The unseasonably comfortable weather has carried some soothing tunes from the Midwest all the way down to the South Valley. Starting this afternoon, AMP Concerts is hauling some Nebraska-style Americana into the Duke City with two free afternoon performances from The Wildwoods Feb. 4 at at the South Valley Library (3904 Isleta Blvd. SE) and Feb. 5 at the Central and Unser Library (8081 Central Ave. SW).
“Every note we play is a chapter in our story, a journey through the heart of American roots music,” the band says. “We’re The Wildwoods, where each lyric is a leaf in the vast forest of our sound.”
The Wildwoods are a trio featuring a husband-and-wife team — Noah on guitar, Chloe Gose on violin — and their longtime friend and bassist Andrew Vaggalis holding down the rhythm section. Drawing inspiration from nature, their shared experiences growing up in Nebraska and life on the road, the group plucks at their audience’s heartstrings with intricate chord structures and genre-defying harmonies. Their ever-evolving brand of folk and Americana is influenced by groups such as Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Watchhouse and Nickel Creek.
Get comfy, update your winter reading list, and let the band guide you through their musical catalogue from their 2017 debut Sweet Nostalgia (2017) to Across A Midwest Sky (2019) and into their latest record, Foxfield Saint John (2023). You might even hear tracks from their soon-to-be-released album Dear Meadowlark, which drops in April.
