Whether you’re visiting for the first time, or you’ve lived here for decades, Albuquerque has an array of activities and events for families during Balloon Fiesta. With many affordable options for groups large or small, once you’re off the field, your budget will go far.
One of New Mexico’s most popular destinations for families is the ABQ BioPark. A few years back, voters approved a tax to build new facilities here, including a $30 million Asian animals exhibit (and a new baby gorilla!) Or, take a stroll through the changing fall colors at the Botanic Garden, watch an afternoon shark feeding at the Aquarium or go fishing at Tingley Beach. If you’d like to visit the entire park, combo tickets to visit all the attractions are only $22 for adults, $12 for seniors and $8 for those 12 and under. New Mexico residents receive a discount. Visit abqbiopark.com for more information.
Albuquerque is home to a variety of food halls. Our pick? Start with Sawmill Market near historic Old Town, winner of Sunset Travel Awards 2023 “What to Do: Best Tasting Experiences” for travel in the West, and host to more than a dozen local eateries from pasta to poke to tacos. Honorable mentions: The Block in Rio Rancho, Green Jeans near I-40 and Carlisle and Tin Can Alley near Balloon Fiesta Park.
