Whole Lotta Love
AMP Concerts presents the worldwide streaming premiere of Moby Dick and the Quest For the Violet Crown, hitting the digital realm on Feb. 4. The band Moby Dick has a simple goal: to do justice to some of the most influential, challenging and generally kick ass songs in the history of hard rock. Paying tribute to legendary rockers Led Zeppelin, the band draws primary inspiration from Zep’s groundbreaking 1973 Madison Square Garden concert The Song Remains the Same. Visually and sonically, Moby Dick recreates Led Zeppelin’s greatest hits, from the group’s early blues rock to its later, more adventurous deep cuts. According to rumor, the band got held up in Cairo recently and was forced to push this premiere by a week. This has given AMP time to push the concert’s visual element even further, with mind-blowing images and projections from local filmmakers and video producers. The band turns up the volume and rocks out from Santa Fe’s Violet Crown Theater starting at 7pm. The concert streams live on the AMP Concerts Facebook Page and its YouTube Channel. The New Mexico Film Foundation, in partnership with The Stagecoach Foundation, launches the New Mexico Above-the-Line Virtual Conversation Series for 2021. This Saturday is the first of four in-depth Zoom discussions with noted New Mexico producers, directors, writers and actors. (Which is what the industry calls “above-the-line” talent.) This free webinar focuses on producers and features a conversation and Q&A with four successful local producers (Bruce C. McKenna, Alexandra Renzo, Michael D. Jones and Andrea Meditch). Metal the Store Turns 3! You heard right, Albuquerque’s funky-cool arts & crafts boutique (located at El Vado Motel) is having a birthday celebration. There’s free COVID-safe food, great sale prices on artist stickers and more. Thanks to COVID, the store’s legendary maggot pit has been shut down. But you can still score cool stickers, patches, T-shirts, masks and other awesome items (designed by Michael O. Weiclaw and his band of crazy designer pals). It’s Gonna Be Lit
Bookworks offers up another virtual author chat for stuck-at-home bookworms with Brandon Hobson, The Removed. Hobson is an assistant professor of creative writing at New Mexico State University and teaches in the MFA program at the Institute of American Indian Arts. Hobson is an enrolled citizen of the Cherokee Nation Tribe of Oklahoma. His latest novel, The Removed, is steeped in Cherokee myths and history. The haunting story centers on the members of a Cherokee family who try to come together on the anniversary of their teenage son’s death at the hands of a police officer. But as the boundaries between the physical and the spiritual world grow weak, one family member finds himself stuck in a place between the living and the dead.
