ESPANOLA, NM — Northern New Mexico College is launching a new online course that focuses on preparing professionals to be successful in the cannabis industry. Admissions are currently open for the Cannabis Establishment Technician course, which will start on March 22.

“Northern (New Mexico College) is proud to offer this new course to help support one of the most exciting and fastest growing industries in New Mexico and the country,” said Dr. Rick Bailey, President of Northern New Mexico College. “We’re allowing students and current professionals to chart their own path forward, fully prepared to be successful in their cannabis careers.”

Northern New Mexico College is working with SeedCrest, a New Mexico-based cannabis education provider, to infuse higher education into the model of how employees and entrepreneurs are supported, and in turn, support the cannabis industry.

“I believe our partnership with NNMC is a model for equity in the industry overall,” said SeedCrest owner and CEO, Shanon Jaramillo. “The CET128 course supports the more than 100,000 patients in the New Mexico Medical Cannabis Program and the 11,000 jobs that legal adults use cannabis will bring to our state.”

By completing the class, students will earn elective credits and the HIPAA certificate, which is needed to work with medical patients. This course is for aspiring and current employees of cannabis establishments who need to maintain a baseline of knowledge to work and maintain employment in a dispensary, grow, manufacturer, testing facility, and/or courier.
