May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and AMP Concerts is celebrating with a concert by ukulele master and innovator Jake Shimabukuro. Born in Honolulu and initially taught by his mother, Shimabukuro is world-renowned for his fast and complex finger work. Over the years he has collaborated with the likes of Jimmy Buffett, Bette Midler, Willie Nelson, Ziggy Marley, Jack Johnson, Kenny Loggins and Alan Parsons. In 2021 he was nominated by President Joe Biden to be a member of the National Council on the Arts. On Friday, May 10 starting at 7:30pm, the barrier-breaking musician hits the stage at Albuquerque’s KiMo Theatre (423 Central Ave. NW). Tickets are $48 orchestra, $38 mezzanine and $28 balcony. Purchase them in advance on the City of Albuquerque’s Department of Arts & Culture website.
