By Adriann Barboa | As a single mom, a proud Grandma, and a lifelong resident of our community, I understand the challenges our families are facing. We’ve accomplished so much over the last four years—but we have more work to do to ensure our families can thrive in a safe, prosperous, and healthy community. As I seek your support for reelection, I want to share the vision that drives our campaign and the priorities that will define my next term.

Every family in District 3 deserves to live in a safe and secure environment. That’s why, over the past four years, I’ve made significant strides to transform services and increase access to care at Bernalillo County facilities. I have worked diligently to enhance our public safety infrastructure—increasing funding for first responders and integrating mental health services into our public safety approach– ensuring our public safety personnel are well-equipped and well-supported with the necessary tools and training to handle the complexities of modern community safety.

The housing crisis continues to be a critical issue for our community. In my last term, we restructured the Tiny Home Village. Now, the village is consistently at 90% capacity and supports residents from transitional living to permanent housing. During the 2024 Legislative session, I worked with the community to garner $3.5 million dollars toward the development of a Community Land Trust to provide affordable, sustainable housing options in District 3. I am also proud to have sponsored funding for a County, City, and Veterans Affairs collaboration to build the Veterans Integration Center that provides family housing for veterans in need. Knowing that collaboration is critical to success, we’ve also partnered with the Albuquerque City Council to create a joint plan for Opioid Settlement funding distribution and formed the Mid Rio Grande Housing Collaborative to tackle our extreme housing needs jointly.

A thriving local economy is essential for the prosperity of our families. My plan includes further reducing bureaucratic hurdles for small business owners and attracting high-quality jobs to our district by leveraging industries such as technology, solar, and healthcare, which offer sustainable growth and opportunities for our residents. Moving forward, I plan to work with other stakeholders to ensure the creation of paid apprenticeships and workforce development so our families in District 3 are ready to fill those jobs.

Living next to Kirtland Air Force Base, I’ve seen firsthand the impact of environmental issues like the jet fuel spill. I am committed to continuing the cleanup efforts and ensuring our district leads the way in sustainability practices. I will continue to invest in expanding green spaces, restoring pollinators in our urban district, supporting local food systems through urban agriculture, and ensuring all development projects meet high environmental standards to protect our land, air, and water for future generations.

Early voting has started, and as we move toward primary election day on June 4th, I ask for your vote not only to continue the work we’ve started but to push even further. Together, we can achieve a vision for Bernalillo that honors our past, meets the urgencies of today, and prepares us for a prosperous future.
