Is the new shoplifting law working?
‘A significant issue is housing, and I think that’s true for everybody.’
We’ve all seen the news reports about increased retail theft. The state Legislature approved a law change that increases penalties in certain situations, but whether that’s a good thing is a matter of opinion.
This week’s featured story comes from our friends over at City Desk ABQ and examines whether the new law is working.
In a companion piece, City Desk reporter Bethany Raja also spoke with APD about increased reporting from businesses.

If we don’t write it, who will?
Big national news outlets might provide play-by-play drama of the latest Trump trial… but they’re not taking you inside Don Schrader’s living room or previewing the next big thing at El Rey or interviewing the local artist excited to launch their first gallery show.
That type of local reporting only comes from local journalists with the freedom to look for stories no one else is telling.
