The World According to Don
‘To me, more important than longevity is feeling good’
This week’s issue holds a special place in my heart for a couple of reasons.
Our featured story this week is all about Don Schrader, the man nearly everyone in Albuquerque recognizes. For this story, I got to have a few one-on-one conversations with Don about life, death and forgiveness. Those talks gave me a new appreciation for Don, quirks and all.
This issue pays tribute to Barron Jones, a dear friend who recently passed away. After making it through the prison system, Barron went on to become a journalist and later an advocate with the American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico.
Of course, we’ve got the usual fare, such as Weak in Review and our weekly cannabis news updates.
-Andy Lyman, editor
P.S. Speaking of cannabis news updates, check out this story about the feds confiscating weed from state-sanctioned businesses.

2024 Hear Here Festival
Keshet Dance and Center for the Arts
Enjoy the world premiere of four new collaborative works, featuring live music, poetry, and dance!
Somewhat akin to a 48-Hour Film Fest, the Hear Here Festival pairs musicians and poets with choreographers for a two-week deep dive residency to create new works. Come see four new dynamic, original works created in just two weeks, premiering in this one-night only event!
SUNDAY, APRIL 7
Gold Souls
Join us on the Brewhouse patio for a super fun evening of live music! 8-piece cosmic soul sensation The Gold Souls’ unique brand of boogie is driven by deep grooves, soaring horns, and powerhouse vocals. Serving up forward-thinking funk/R&B that moves the mind and the dance floor, The Gold Souls bring a fresh yet classic sound that is distinctly their own. Led by the dynamic Juniper Waller, the group is made up of young talent hailing from the Bay and Sacramento areas, and boasts the region’s first all women horn section.
If we don’t write it, who will?
Big national news outlets might provide play-by-play drama of the latest Trump trial… but they’re not taking you inside Don Schrader’s living room or previewing the next big thing at El Rey or interviewing the local artist excited to launch their first gallery show.
