Puccini’s last opera is set in a fairytale vision of ancient China, where the beautiful yet unapproachable princess Turandot rules with an iron fist. To those who wish to marry her, she has issued a challenge: answer all of her riddles or face grim execution. None can succeed until, from afar, a mysterious man appears – Prince Calaf. Featuring some of opera’s most widely recognizable music, including “Nessun dorma,” this new production of Turandot will be a stunning tour-de-force.At the NHCC, March 12-19, operasouthwest.org
