The long-awaited COVID-19 vaccine is finally here, but unless you are a healthcare worker or high-risk resident, your shot is weeks or months away.
According to the New Mexico Department of Health, which oversees the state’s vaccine rollout plan, vaccines will be prioritized for frontline health care workers in hospital settings. The state will then provide vaccines to other frontline healthcare workers and first responders, as well as staff and residents of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities. This is in line with federal recommendations.
This means that not everyone will be able to be vaccinated right away, and vaccine may not be available to the general public until mid-2021.
But, you can get in line (virtually) by answering a few simple health questions and opting into notifications from DOH. When it’s your turn, they’ll send you a message inviting you to make your appointment.
To get started, select “I do not have an event code; I want to register for the vaccine when it is available.”
