The Albuquerque Police Department filed an arrest warrant on Thursday for 27-year-old Sergio Almanza, for his involvement in a fatal crash on the evening of Sunday, December 12, 2021 that killed 7-year-old Pronoy Bhattacharya. Bhattacharya was crossing the street with his family at the intersection of Central Avenue and Tingley Drive S.W. when he was struck by an illegal off-road vehicle. Police believe Almanza was the driver.
Police served a warrant at his home today in Belen, and it appears he has fled. He is now considered a fugitive.
APD is working in conjunction with the New Mexico State Police to apprehend Almanza. If anyone has information about his whereabouts, they are urged to call 242-COPS or tips can reported anonymously to the Albuquerque Metro Crime Stoppers online or by phone (505)-843-STOP.
