Shopping for Native-made gifts for Xmas can be tricky. The majority of work is sold online or through local shows during the holiday season. If you wait too long, you can miss out! Considering “local” can also mean I’ve driven a two-hour round trip journey just for oven bread and tamales, these spots are here in town or within driving distance and open to the public.
A working studio and gallery for local photographer Ungelbah Dávila (Navajo/Chicanx/Irish), Silver Moon Studio is also a safe space for LGBTQ+ and BIPOC artists and makers to display and sell their work. You’ll find a collection of Indigenous South American and Mexican art and oddities, as well as edgy, handmade leather purses by African American maker and biker Kerry Bridges.

HomegrowNM is a Native-owned boutique and contemporary art gallery, open 1 pm to 6pm Tuesday through Sunday or by appointment. HomegrowNM Trading Post has been a gem on Central for over two years now. The store has weathered a tough Nob Hill economy and a pandemic by showcasing some of the nicest gear and artwork by local N.M. Natives. The T-shirt game here is next level. It’s more than just hip hop; you can find something for anyone on that list here. While you’re there, grab a pic in front of the Nsrgnts mural next door!

Native women-owned and killing it! Bow and Arrow just released a “national land acknowledgment” label we highlighted last month in collaboration with other breweries around the country. But they didn’t stop there! This month they give us a new taste in stouts, introducing the Proper Pecan. Described as “roasty toasty pecans, gobs of cacao nibs and properly layered with luscious vanilla.” Perfect for drinking over the holidays. Located one and a half blocks south of Interstate 40 on the corner of Sixth Street and Bezemek Avenue.
