Albuquerque police are searching for the driver who struck and killed a 7-year-old boy as he was crossing the street with his family.

The boy was identified as police as Pronoy Bhattacharya from Albuquerque. The hit and run occurred Sunday around 8:30 p.m. at Central Ave and Tingley Drive.

Bhattacharya’s family of four had just left the River of Lights, at ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden.

According to traffic camera footage, a car ran a red light. The family was in the crosswalk and the traffic signal gave them the right of way.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. His father was also injured and taken to a hospital in stable condition.

APD’s Motor Unit located an off-road vehicle that may have been involved in Sunday’s fatal crash that resulted in the death of 7-year-old Pronoy Bhattacharya.

Officers with the Motor Unit followed up on dozens of tips from the community and located the UTV on Monday in the 200 block of 65th Street N.W.

The vehicle was collected as evidence from the property.

Albuquerque Metro Crime Stoppers is offering a $3,500 reward for information that leads to an arrest. An individual donated $1,000 to raise the reward to $3,500. People can call 505-843-STOP (7867) to report tips, which can also be made anonymously.
