Twitter lit up in Albuquerque late last night as multiple people reported at least 6 bright lights appearing to fly in an unusual formation over downtown Albuquerque shortly before 10:30 last night.
KOAT News reporter Brittany Hope posted this video at 10:23 pm.
Others quickly commented that they too had seen the lights.
Joe Gallegos posted this from his downtown balcony:
One YouTuber posted this video from another angle. Here the lights are visible even with a bright street light nearby.
“I got this shit on camera,” the YouTuber narrated.
In some videos, the lights appear and disappear in a line, forming a string of lights across the sky. That led some to speculate that the lights may have been Starlink satellites launched by Elon Musk’s company to provide internet access from space. Online satellite trackers show the satellites regularly passing over New Mexico in a string formation.
New Mexico is no stranger to UFO sightings, of course. The infamous Roswell incident in July 1947 sparked a national fascination with the idea of alien visitations to Earth.
Albuquerque has had its own share of reports, mostly centered over the sprawling Kirtland Air Force Base and Sandia National Laboratories complex which hosts top secret research facilities.
