Thursday 1
“The Challenge: All-Stars” (Paramount+ streaming) MTV’s long-running competition reality show pits “the most iconic, boldest and fiercest competitors” from the original “Real World” and “Road Rules” against each other in head-to-head challenges for a $500,000 grand prize. Now, instead of watching this stuff on boring old basic cable, you can pay a monthly fee to a streaming service.
Cagefighter (Crackle streaming) Former and current MMA fighters and pro wrestlers are among the cast members of this kumite-style fight film. Also, Gina Gershon shows up.
“Made For Love” (HBO Max streaming) A woman (Cristin Milioti from Palm Springs) goes on the run after 10 years of suffocating marriage to a controlling tech billionaire (Ray Romano). Unfortunately, he’s implanted a monitoring device in her brain, allowing him to track her, watch her and follow her “emotional data.” This darkly funny sci-fi (anti-) romance is based on the book of the same name by Alissa Nutting.
“Worn Stories” (Netflix streaming) Real people unpack the “fascinating and quirky stories” around their most meaningful pieces of clothing. Sounds like a fine segment for NPR’s “All Things Considered,” but maybe not the most gripping Netflix content.
Train to Busan Presents: Peninsula (Shudder streaming) Shudder snatches up this long-awaited animated sequel to Yeon Sang-ho’s jaw-droppingly propulsive South Korean zombie action flick from 2016.
“United States of Al” (KRQE-13 7:31pm) A Marine combat veteran (Parker Young from “Suburgatory”) struggles to readjust to civilian life in Ohio—a task that becomes harder (and wackier) after Awalmir (Adhir Kalyan, “Rules of Engagement”), the Afghan interpreter who served with his combat unit, arrives to start a new life in America. Evidently, there’s no situation CBS can’t turn into middle-of-the-road comedy fodder.
“Law & Order: Organized Crime” (KRQE-13 9pm) Christopher Meloni returns as NYPD detective Elliot Stabler to anchor this sixth(!) spinoff of CBS’ venerable crime solving series.
Friday 2
“Moment of Truth” (IMDb TV streaming) The Internet Movie Database orders up its own true-crime programming with this docuseries recounting the murder of Michael Jordan’s dad.
“The Barbarian and the Troll” (Nickelodeon 5:30pm) This snarky, puppet-based fantasy (from former Henson Company puppeteer Drew Massey and The LEGO Movie: The Second Part director Mike Mitchell) has future cult fave written all over it. Fierce female warrior Brendar (Spencer Grammer from “Rick & Morty”) teams up with a lowly troll bard (Massey) to rescue her brother from an evil sorcerer.
“Hysterical” (FX 10pm) FX heads out on the road and hangs out backstage with some of today’s most cutting-edge female comedians.
Saturday 3
The Ten Commandments (KOAT-7 6pm) What’s Easter without Charlton Heston commanding Yul Brynner to let his people go?
Sunday 4
“Malika the Lion Queen” (KRQE-DT2 7pm) Angela Bassett narrates this nature special about the head lioness of a powerful pride in South Africa’s Kruger National Park.
“My Grandparents’ War” (KNME-5 7pm) Actors, starting with Helena Bonham Carter, explore what their grandparents did during World War II.
“The 27th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards” (TBS/TNT 7pm) There’s no host, and you’ve probably seen fewer of the 2020 nominees than any year in the past, but … Sorry, where was I going with this?
“Birdgirl” (Cartoon Network 10pm) Adult Swim’s hilariously unhinged Hanna-Barbera riff “Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law” gets a belated spinoff. After being named CEO of the world’s largest and most nonsensical corporation, Judy Ken Sebben (Paget Brewster) has to find a way to maintain her work/superhero life balance.
Monday 5
“Hemingway” (KNME-5 7pm) Ken Burns turns his documentary eye toward iconic American writer Ernest Hemingway.
Tuesday 6
“The Last Kids on Earth: Happy Apocalypse to You—A One-Off Interactive Special” (Netflix streaming) The kids’ book series-turned-TV show gets an “interactive” special allowing viewers to decide (“Choose Your Own Adventure”-style) where the monster-fighting heroes go and what they do.
Wednesday 7
“Snabba Cash” (Netflix streaming) The entrepreneurial jet set and the criminal world collide in this Swedish drama based on the Stockholm Noir books by Jens Lapidus.
“Kung Fu” (KWBQ-19 7pm) The Wild West-set marital arts drama from the ’70s starring David Carradine returns with a modern-day, gender-swapped reboot. After dropping out of college and going on a life-changing journey to an isolated monastery in China, a Chinese-American girl returns to San Francisco, only to discover her hometown has been overrun by crime and corruption.
“Exterminate All the Brutes” (HBO 7pm) HBO examines “the exploitative and genocidal aspects of European colonialism,” from America to Africa, and its impact on society today.
“Home Economics” (KOAT-7 7:30pm) Three adult siblings (one super rich, one middle-class and one barely holding on) work on their loving yet uncomfortable relationships with one another. Topher Grace (“That ’70s show”) is the familiar face.
