¡Cine Magnífico! (Fri. 7, Film)

Instituto Cervantes of Albuquerque presents the 13th annual ¡Cine Magnífico! Spanish-language film festival, taking place Nov. 7 through 9 at Bank of America Theatre at the National Hispanic Cultural Center (1701 Fourth St. SW). This year’s outing promises to “showcase bold new directorial voices from Spain, Mexico, Chile, Colombia and Argentina with six dramatic feature films, exploring themes of love, friendship, grief,and the pain and joy of family.” The festival kicks off on Friday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. with Una Quinta Portuguesa/A Portuguese Farm (Spain/Portugal), a drama about a geography teacher who adopts a new identity and starts a new life after the disappearance of his wife. Translations (Fri. 7, Performance)

West End Productions mounts its latest theatrical outing at North Fourth Art Space (4904 Fourth St. NW) starting Friday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. Brian Friel’s Irish drama Translations is set in the fictional village of Baile Beag (Ballybeg) in 19th-century Ireland, where the English army is mapping the area and renaming Gaelic place names in English. The show runs Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. though Nov. 23. Tickets are $20 to $24 in advance or $22 to $26 at the door. To reserve a seat, go to westendproductions.org/.

Miguel Caro Annual Tribute (Sat. 8, Dance)

Ballet Folkórico Fiesta Mexicana presents an evening of Mexican Folklóric dances honoring Maestro Extraordinaire, Miguel Caro Zaragoza! It’s an event for the whole family which highlights dances from several regions and states throughout Mexico. This show includes various performances from the entire dance company, carrying forward Caro’s legacy and teachings. The Miguel Caro Annual Tribute happens Saturday, Nov. 8 at 4 p.m. at South Broadway Cultural Center (1025 Broadway Blvd. SE). Tickets are $20 for adults or $13 for students/seniors.
