21st Annual Festival of Film Noir

The Guild Cinema (3405 Central Ave. NE) closes out the second weekend of its 21st Annual Festival of Film Noir with some dark and dirty double features. On Thursday and Friday, July 25 and 26, its the classic Hollywood crime thrillers Beware, My Lovely (1952) starring Ida Lupino and Lady in a Cage (1964) starring Olivia deHavilland (showtimes 4:30, 6:30 and 8:30 p.m.) Saturday and Sunday, July 26 and 27, it’s neo-noir greats 52 Pick-Up (1986) with Roy Scheider and The Hot Spot (1990) with Don Johnson (showtimes 3:30, 5:45 and 8:15 p.m.) Double feature tickets are $10 general admission or $7 students/seniors, leaving you enough for a big bucket of popcorn during the movie or a cheap slug of whiskey afterward.

Movies in the Park

Bernalillo County and the City of Albuquerque are throwing a huge viewing party for everybody with the final Movies in the Park event of the summer season. Bring your friends and family, pack up some snacks and head on out to Balloon Fiesta Park (5500 Balloon Fiesta Parkway NE) on Friday, July 25. Gates open at 6 p.m. Starting at dusk, it’s a witchy double feature of 1939’s The Wizard of Oz and 2024’s Wicked. Feel free to sing along to your favorite tunes! Admission is totally free.

Cardboard Playhouse Presents: The Lion King Jr.

Hakuna matata, everybody! Albuquerque’s premiere kids’ theater troupe puts on a production of The Lion King Jr. featuring songs from the Broadway musical and the Disney animated feature. Head on out to the jungle (or at least a cardboard recreation of one) at UNM’s Rodey Theatre (1 University of New Mexico) starting Friday, July 25. This tune-filled, animal-packed coming-of-age tale runs Fridays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays/Sundays at 2 p.m. through Aug. 3. Tickets are $15 and available now through cardboardplayhouse.org/shows/the-lion-king-jr.
