Zoot Suit Styles: Barrio Resistance Art Exhibit (8/1, Art Opening)

El Chante: Casa de Cultura (804 Park Ave. SW) presents its third annual Zoot Suit Styles show on Friday, Aug. 1 from 5 to 9 p.m. This “Barrio Resistance Art Exhibit” is a visual storytelling show focusing on the history of zoot suit fashion and its influence over the decades as a working-class movement with a focus on: the zoot suit riots, the role of women, music, the media, Caló language, street art and youth. Featured artists include Cholita, Stephanie Galloway, Emily Garcia, Alberto Gutierrez, Dennis Marquez and more. DJ La Ruda & DJ Rootz Rocka will be there providing background beats. Admission is free.

A Night of Haunting Magick w/ Jordan Jonas (Sat/2, Performance)

Macabre magician Jordan Jonas conjures up a night of magical mystery at one of Albuquerque’s most haunted destinations. A Night of Haunting Magick hits the Painted Lady Bed & Brew (1100 Bellamah Ave. NW) with close-up sleight of hand, mind reading, stunning psychic demonstrations and perhaps even contact with the spirits of The Painted Lady themselves! The ghosts get jumping Saturday, Aug. 2 starting at 8 p.m. This is an indoor event taking place inside the Casita at Painted Lady. Local craft beer are available for purchase. Lör: An All-New Immersive Musical Event (8/1, Performance)

Brandon Scott Jensen, the creator of Lunaria and Sex and the Burque: Sass In the City and the director of local stage performances Reefer Madness and Take Me Out presents Lör: An All-New Immersive Musical Event. This song-filled story re-imagines the origin of Hans Christian Andersen’s Snow Queen, bringing in characters from The Wizard of Oz, Peter Pan, Beauty and the Beast and more. It promises to feature the “sights, sounds, smells and even tastes of an enchanted world of magic, friendship, intrigue, love and betrayal.” This one-of-a-kind theatrical experience debuts on Friday, Aug. 1 at 6:30 p.m. and continues Fridays and Saturdays at 6:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3:30 p.m. until Aug. 10.
