Back to school season is here, and Bernalillo County is looking to help students and families with lots of school giveaways and events around the Albuquerque metro area. This is a great opportunity for families to get a head start on back to school and for those who are needing a little extra help.

It starts off this Friday, July 18, at Expo New Mexico (300 San Pedro Dr. NE) with the Back to School Backpack Giveaway sponsored by Lerner and Rowe. Over 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies are sitting ready to be given out to students. It begins at 4 p.m., and bags will be given out first-come, first-serve.

The next morning, July 19, there’s the Annual Backpack Extravaganza hosted by YDI at 3411 Candelaria Rd NE. This is another similar event where students can receive free backpacks and school supplies. There will also be some special treats for the whole family to enjoy – like snow cones and gift raffles. Parents will also have access to various community resources, including ONIN Staffing, Bernalillo County Health and You Matter Counseling Services.

The following weekend, on Friday, July 25, Explora (1701 Mountain Rd. NW) is hosting a Back-To-School Bash & Foster Family Care Fair specifically for foster families. This event takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. and requires an RSVP at the link here: forms.gle/EsDmTnAhtog3C2ac6

On Saturday, July 26, Rio Rancho Elks Lodge (1530 Barbara Loop SE) is hosting another backpack giveaway. Along with a free backpack and school supplies, students and families are able to enjoy snacks and other giveaways. This will be going from noon to 2 p.m.

After the Elks Lodge event, Jump In2 School Bash is hosting their 5th annual school bash. This takes place July 26 from noon to 4 p.m. at Bernalillo County Sheriffs Posse. Featuring even more free backpacks and supplies, along with free haircuts and manicures, other giveaways and prizes, live entertainment, free food, and a foam party for kids. There will be tons of activities for families and lots of opportunities to win even more school supplies. This event also has a Western theme, with prizes for the best dressed.
