Some of the toughest rugby players in town are lacing up their dancing cleats, putting on their most glamorous threads and showing off those fabulous bods this weekend at one of Albuquerque’s most celebrated bars and LGBTQIA+ safe spaces. Hosted by Le Femme Magnifique 2017 SCRUMtious Cox — who is one badass rugger herself — the Rugby is a Drag (Show!) and fundraiser for Casa Q offers a mix of drag performances, dancing, lip-syncing, booty shaking and rugby-themed entertainment. The sensational show returns to Sidewinders Bar and Grill at its new location at 4200 Central SE this Friday, Jan. 17. Presented by the New Mexico Brujos rugby club, the night of glitter and grit will also raise money to help LGBTQIA+ youth who may be in search of a warm place to live this winter.

For those unfamiliar with the city’s rugby scene, the New Mexico Brujos have been around for decades. Located in Albuquerque and founded in 1981, the Division III Men’s Rugby Football club and member of the Rio Grande Rugby Union offers recreational and competitive sports leagues, tournaments, instructional courses and rugby youth camps. The Brujos are very proud of their acceptance of new members regardless of rugby experience and welcome everyone to join the club.

Proceeds from the Rugby is a Drag (Show!) benefit Casa Q, an organization providing safe living for LGBTQ+ youth, especially those at risk of or experiencing homelessness. Casa Q offers housing, transitional living programs, strength-based services and culturally appropriate and competent advocacy for New Mexico teens. Tickets are $10 and available at the door on the night of.

Pride Sponsorships are available for organizations who wish to increase their brand visibility during the big show, which will be attended by hundreds of locals including rugby fans and LGBTQ+ advocates and allies. Sponsorship includes logo placement on event signage, promotional materials and social media. The all-inclusive sponsorship package gets your logo placed on a drag performer or go-go dancer and a song dedicated to your organization during the performance.
