Cannabis and sandwich loving food franchise-chain Chiba Hut Toasted Subs is inviting customers to “SmokeOut Injustice while enjoying dank food and chill vibes.” The counterculture-themed sandwich shop is teaming up with the Last Prisoner Project for the fourth consecutive SmokeOut Injustice Day.

Although cannabis culture in America has evolved quite a bit since Chiba Hut founder Scott Jennings opened his first eatery in Arizona 27 years ago, thousands of Americans are still locked up on cannabis-related charges – even in states where the drug has been decriminalized. The Last Prisoner Project uses legal advocacy, public education and legislative action to work toward freeing every single person still incarcerated for nonviolent cannabis crimes.

SmokeOut Injustice Day, Cheba Hut’s annual day of giving back, takes place Wednesday, Jan. 22. All participating locations, including those in Albuquerque, will donate $2 from every entree, sold in-shop or delivered, to Last Prisoner Project. Not a bad way to show your support for social justice and score a tasty sandwich.

“Advocacy and inclusion are part of the fabric of who we are at Cheba Hut. We want to continue to create awareness for all those who are facing injustice and be a champion for reform,” says New Mexico franchisee and CEO of WAHi Brands, Isaac Montoya.

Chiba Hut Toasted Subs are located at 115 Harvard Dr. SE, 6902 Menaul Blvd. NE and 3700 Ellison Dr. NW. They are open today from 10 a.m. to midnight.
