FUSION and The Lapis Room are giving Albuquerque an opportunity to get a load of some killer art, jam some tunes, eat, drink, be merry and grab some last-minute holiday gifts from local businesses. On Dec. 22, The Cositas y Más free holiday event at The Meadow — FUSION Theater’s outdoor space in downtown Albuquerque — will feature mural reveals by artists Joshua Patterson, Thomas Christopher Haag, Beedallo, Aquilla Kappy and David Kappy, as well as pop-up booths from a variety of local artists and vendors.
Dennis Gromelski, FUSION’s executive director, has long envisioned murals lining the outdoor walls of the buildings enclosing The Meadow. The murals were being painted during FUSION’s inaugural Rising High Arts Festival in October 2024.
“The short-term goal for The Meadow is to develop it into a quality ‘art garden,’ with sculptures and wall art,” Gromelski says. “Having a mural event during the Rising High Arts Festival was a great way for the fest to contribute to the campus in a more permanent fashion. Similar efforts will be a component of the fest each October.”
You can check out a video slideshow of the murals in progress here.
Other artists and vendors participating in the Cositas y Más market include Margarita Paz-Pedro, Vanessa Alvarado, Alec Enzo, Stroke Artist, Desert Pigeon Pottery, SamDoesNails, The Human Ones, Friends & Monsters, David Estes Mobiles, Thomas Christopher Haag, Bearface, Harrison Cook, Earthen, Xunty Made, Alfredo Quiroz, Baby Mami, RECOV Vintage, J. Katie Bowles, AllChola, Enchanted Threadlings, 4PM Outfitters, Good Company NM and Flyby Provisions. Many of the muralists participating in the reveal will also have merch for sale.
Food and drink will be provided by Safe House Distilling, Novel
Point Coffee and Fly By Provisions.
The Lapis Room gallery is located in Old Town and connected to Noisy Water Winery’s Old Town Tasting Room, where art devotees can sip a glass of wine or cider while they soak in an atmosphere that represents Southwest contemporary culture. In addition to paintings and prints, the Lapis Room offers a selection of sculpture, fine jewelry and vintage and handmade goods.
“Teaming up with a vibrant, growing gallery like Lapis Room on the mural project was a great synchronous experience and is having positive results for both entities,” Gromelski says.
