The National Insitute of Flamenco (NIF) along with the National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) will be presenting “Çiertas danças” on Nov.11 at 8 pm and Nov.12 at 4 pm at the Albuquerque Journal Theatre.

Showcasing Yjastros: The American Flamenco Repertory Company and guest artists, the fall show will feature a “diverse array of powerful flamenco dance and music,” according to a press release from the NIF. That diversity is abundantly clear from the show’s rehearsals. The combination of music, singing and dance will invoke a strong feeling in audience members, even those who are new to flamenco.

The show will feature dancers and choreographers Rafael Estévez and Valeriano Paños, who were awarded the 2019 Spanish National Dance Prize for Choreography.

“In working with multiple artists, Yjastros Artistic Director Joaquín Encinias sees his company realize their exploration of Flamenco’s universal appeal while respecting its unique traditions and sensibilities,” a press release stated. The show will present the traditions of flamenco along with innovation and new ideas.

Tickets will start at $40 and go up to $70. Discounts will be available for students, seniors and NHCC members. Tickets are available at nhccnm.org or call the box office at (505) 724-4771.
