Vice President Kamala Harris made a stop in Albuquerque this afternoon for a private fundraiser in support of Democratic candidates and the governor. The Vice President gave remarks at the fundraiser that was attended by New Mexico legislators, lobbyists and about 100 others.

Vice President Harris, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and Dr. Eve Espey participated in a discussion about reproductive rights at the University of New Mexico. “I think that we need to take back the flag on this issue,” said Harris. “This is about freedom and liberty. People are scared. Laws are being passed around the country that don’t even make exceptions for rape and incest.”

Harris referenced her time as a prosecutor when she focused on crimes against women and children. “The idea that a so-called leader would prohibit someone who has survived such an extreme act of violence and then to tell that person that they can’t make decisions about their body is immoral.”

The Vice President has been traveling around the country talking to voters about reproductive rights leading up to the midterm elections.
