After just over a year of publishing, staff from The Paper.’s newsroom has won national awards from two organizations for their coverage.
After reporter Jonathan Sims won first place for coverage on the Albuquerque Indian School Gravesite Rediscovered Beneath a City Park from the New Mexico Press Women, his work went on to win First Place for Continuing Coverage of the ongoing series from the National Federation of Press Women.
With a nod to our talented design staff, The Paper.’s former Art Director Adrian Carver also won First Place for newspaper design and layout from the NFPW.
Recipients from across the country were honored for excellence in communications during an awards ceremony in Fargo, North Dakota. A distinguished group of professional journalists, communications specialists, and educators judged nearly 2,000 entries.
Keeping up with Otero County Commissioner Couy Griffin and the Cowboys for Trump won publisher Tierna Unruh-Enos and co-owner of The Paper. Pat Davis First Place for their Right Wing Extremism Coverage from the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies. The series began just one day after the Capitol riot with the story Cowboys for Trump Leader Calls For New Rally With “Blood Running From the Building.”
The Association of Alternative Newsmedia (AAN) is a 501c(6) organization, which represents nearly 100 alternative newsmedia organizations throughout North America.
