The architect of the infamous “Dong Copter,” a flying sex toy drone that made an appearance at several of Bernalillo County Sheriff Manny Gonzales’s mayoral campaign events filed his candidacy with the Secretary of State to run for Gonzales’s job. Gonzales is nearing the end of his term and will not be able to run again.

Kaelan Ashby Dreyer will be running for Bernalillo County Sheriff as the only Libertarian candidate among seven Democrats and four Republicans who have filed.

During a Gonzales campaign event, a drone dangling a rainbow-colored dildo interrupted a speech by the county sheriff running for mayor and the man who tried to save it from capture was arrested after he allegedly assaulted the sheriff and staff in the process.

Dreyer’s stunt at Gonzales’s event gained national attention and was widely circulated online. According to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court, Kaelan Ashby Dreyer, 20, was arrested for battery and resisting an officer after he allegedly took a swing at the sheriff when off-duty officers attempted to take him into custody. The charges were eventually dismissed because the officer who filed the charges failed to appear in court. Gonzales even went so far as to not-so-subtly accuse current Mayor Tim Keller of being behind dildo-gate.

With a field full of established names and the support of the nation’s two major political parties, Dreyer’s path to the Sheriff’s office may be anything but straightforward.
