The January 6 Panel has just subpoenaed two Republican electors in New Mexico, Jewll Powdrell and Deborah W. Maestas, for their role in signing fake election certificates declaring that former President Donald Trump won the 2020 election. The Republican electors sought to replace valid presidential electors that declared Biden the victor in the 2020 election.
Following the release of a list of Republican electors who certified fake election certificates declaring that former President Donald Trump won the 2020 election in Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Nevada and New Mexico, New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas has moved the matter up the ladder to the feds.
“Election laws are the foundation of our democracy and must be respected. While review under state law is ongoing, we have referred this matter to the appropriate federal law enforcement authorities and will provide any assistance they deem necessary,” said Balderas.
The electors, who sought to replace valid presidential electors from their states, according to documents obtained by American Oversight, may soon be under federal investigation. These rogue electors sent their fake certification on Dec. 14, 2020, to Congress and the National Archives. They didn’t have the backing of any elected officials like a governor or secretary of state, who certify authentic election results.
The five electors who signed the fake certificates from New Mexico were Jewll Powdrell, a retired businessman from Rio Rancho and member of the United Black Conservatives of New Mexico; Deborah W. Maestas, the former Chairwoman of the Republican Party of New Mexico; Lupe Garcia, a New Mexico businessman; Rosie Tripp, former committee member of the Republican National Committee; and Anissa Ford-Tinnin. Ford-Tinnin was a campaign aide to former governor Susana Martinez and was elected by the other four on Dec. 14 to fill the vacancy of oilman Harvey Yates.
Last week, Michigan’s attorney general asked federal prosecutors to open a criminal investigation into 16 Republicans electors from Michigan who submitted false certificates stating Trump won the election instead of President Joe Biden.
The Paper. reached out to the Republican Party of New Mexico, but has not heard anything as of press time.
