On Monday, New Mexico state health officials announced 3,110 additional COVID-19 cases and 37 deaths from COVID. Those numbers are reported from Dec.18-20. That’s a markedly higher difference than one week ago when the NMDOH reported 788 new COVID-19 cases and 7 deaths on December 14.

The state does say that the daily case counts and test numbers are raw data based on information the state receives today – meaning data that has not yet been scrutinized to identify potential duplicates or late-arriving positives or negatives. Bernalillo County still tops the list of counties with the highest positive case count.

The state says they are seeing a surge in Omicron variant patients, coupled with the ongoing Delta variant surge that is continuing to overwhelm hospitals in the state. The number of deaths of New Mexico residents related to COVID-19 is now 5,614.
