Update: Albuquerque Police say a male student has died in a shooting at Washington Middle School as he was being transported to the hospital, but provided no further updates.

Officers from the Albuquerque Public Schools Police and Albuquerque Police responded to reports of a shooting on the grounds of a downtown middle school Friday afternoon.

Arriving on scene, officers discovered one victim who was subsequently transported to an area hospital with unknown injuries.

The incident was reported just before 1:00 pm on what is just the third day back to school for APS students.

Police were seen handcuffing one person who appeared to be a juvenile.

Little official information is available at this time but a neighbor told KOB TV’s Ryan Laughlin that he heard approximately six shots and saw students fleeing the playground area outside.
