Music to Our Ears

More than 60 musicians and artists, including Jackson Browne, Lyle Lovett, David Byrne, The Chicks, Steve Earle, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, John Doe, Alejandro Escovedo, Rodney Crowell and Kurt Vile are taking part in the Food for Love Concert & Fundraiser on Feb. 13. Local artists like Chevel Shepherd and Baracutanga are also on hand. They’ll be joined by other specials guests, including Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, former Governor Bill Richardson, former Senator Tom Udall, George RR Martin, Ali MacGraw and N. Scott Momaday. The concert is free, but donations are gratefully accepted—and 100 percent of every dollar raised goes to New Mexico’s five food banks to help provide nutritious meals to New Mexicans in every part of the state who are struggling with food security. (Thornburg Investment Management and Thornburg Foundation will even provide matching donations, up to $50,000.) The epic, five-hour virtual concert starts at 5pm and will be streamed live on the foodforlove.org website, as well as Facebook (facebook.com/FoodforLoveNM) and YouTube (bit.ly/3aJBnCb). Be sure to tune in, and donate generously! (Devin D. O’Leary)

Tour de Burque

Amazing Chase: ABQ is a “new tour concept” from the Albuquerque Tourism & Sightseeing Factory (AT&SF). This live event is described as part pub trivia, part scavenger hunt and part “Cash Cab.” Competitors will venture out into the city with their “Chase Crew” as if they were chasing a hot air balloon around the city. Driving around with the wind as their guide, participants will be competing against other Chase Crews by collecting points for visiting iconic (and sometimes hidden) ABQ locations. This touring event occurs weekly on Saturdays, 1 to 4pm, beginning Feb. 13, at Hotel Albuquerque at Old Town (800 Rio Grande Blvd. NW). The only requirements to participate are a vehicle and a cell phone that can receive text messages. Cost for this all-ages event is $30 per crew (up to five people). To secure a ticket, go to holdmyticket.com/event/369151. (Devin D. O’Leary)

Virtual Vacation

Stuck at home and craving an exotic vacation? The Adobe Theatre offers up Tour di Europa, a collection of three short plays (“Venice: Souvenirs,” “Paris: Escape” and “Athens: Passion”) by Jules Tasca. Director Nancy Sellin selected these three short plays because, “We all need a brief release from the cares and woes of the day and a chance to laugh with others (and at ourselves).” The plays can be viewed Saturday, Feb. 13, at 7.30pm and Sunday, Feb. 14, at 2pm via livestream. Tickets are $8. For more info go to adobetheater.org. (Devin D. O’Leary)

Undercover Lovers

You still can’t go out and see live bands in Albuquerque, but you can still check out local concerts. Our fave local venue, Launchpad, has again teamed up with Gina Lawson, who curates this year’s Covers By Lovers show. The live, virtual edition of this annual concert features an assortment of local couples covering some of their favorite tunes. Among the romantic duets: Jenny Sillery and Julian McClellan, Chuck Hawley and Shelly Ley, Carlos Rafael Garcia and Monica DeMarco, Eli del Puerto and Felix Peralta, Brooke Arias and Nadia Sahi, Jessica Stone and Troy Tripp, Evan Safford and Roxi, Barney Lopez and Andee Shray. The love songs start streaming Feb. 13 at 8pm on Facebook Live (facebook.com/events/3674354702634293) and YouTube (youtube.com/launchpadabq). The concert is free, but you could always support Launchpad and these local artists by donating at patreon.com/Launchpadabq. (Devin D. O’Leary)
