'Stamp Out Hunger' With USPS & Roadrunner Food Bank This Weekend

This Saturday, May 13, letter carriers and the U.S. Postal Service will be joining together to help raise food for local hunger-relief organizations in thousands of communities across the U.S. The annual Stamp out Hunger food drive remains the largest single day food drive in the country.

Here in New Mexico, the National Association of Letter Carriers is anticipating participation from 15 communities, including: Albuquerque, Alamogordo, Artesia, Belen, Hobbs, Las Cruces, Las Vegas, Los Alamos, Los Lunas, Rio Rancho, Roswell, T or C, Santa Fe, Santa Rosa, and Silver City.

Those who want to participate can fill any sturdy bag or box with non-perishable food items and leave it near  their mailbox before mail delivery on Sat., May 13

 Letter carriers will pick up food donations on Saturday to provide to a hunger-relief organization in their community. In Albuquerque, Roadrunner Food Bank will benefit from the food collected. Last spring, the food drive in Albuquerque raised nearly 150,000 pounds of food.

More than 285,000 New Mexicans, or 13.5 percent of the state’s population is at-risk of hunger According to Feeding America. 

Blue plastic bags will be distributed in mailboxes in Albuquerque throughout the week leading up to the food drive.
