Movie Theaters Reopen in NM This Weekend

Businesses Plan Reopening

There are more positive signs for the future of businesses as the state eases its COVID-19 restrictions. After more than a year, movie theaters in New Mexico will begin to reopen this weekend. Century Rio 24 Plex and XD Theater announced they would be opening their doors on Saturday, May 1. The theatre will be reopening with movies including “Mortal Kombat,” “Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train,” “Godzilla vs. Kong,” "Nomadland“ and “Triumph." Tickets can be purchased online in advance.

Regal Theaters also announced they would begin to reopen their New Mexico locations on May 21. Independent theaters like the Guild Cinema in Nob Hill haven't released an opening date. For now, the Guild is offering streaming movies through their website.

The news comes as the state announced updates to the Red to Green framework which will move Bernalillo County in the green Friday, April 30. Under the new framework, large entertainment venues, like movie theaters, can operate up to 25 percent of their maximum capacity indoors and 50 percent outdoors. Masks will still be required for indoor venues. Theatres will also have blocked seats adjacent to parties once tickets are purchased.
