Make St Patty’s Day Your 420

There’s More to Celebrating Than Green Beer

Celebrating St. Patrick's Day probably invokes memories of shamrock-shaped glasses and foamy green mugs of beer. While everyone else is busy getting drunk on Saint Paddy’s Day, try chilling in the great outdoors while basking in Mother Nature's glory. Or just hang out at home in green underwear not doing anything special to celebrate. Staying home and eating/drinking something with CBD/THC in it might be the most relaxing day you have had in a while. Green beer isn't the only way to wind down. You could watch a movie about leprechauns—however, sometimes the best activity is doing nothing but drinking a CBD/THC milkshake.

You could try making cannabis-infused drinks and treats for St. Patrick’s Day, starting with Irish Coffee in the morning. Irish coffee is a great drink, but you can take it to the next level with cannabis-infused coffee cubes. You can also keep cannabis-infused coffee cubes in the freezer all the time and toss them into dairy or nut milk for a delicious treat.

Irish Coffee

  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 jigger Irish whiskey (1 1/2 ounces or 3 tablespoons)
  • Heavy cream, slightly whipped

Fill a footed mug or a coffee mug with hot water to preheat it, then empty. Pour piping hot coffee into warmed glass until it is about 3/4 full. Add the brown sugar and stir until completely dissolved. Blend in Irish whiskey. Top with a collar of the whipped heavy cream by pouring gently over the back of the spoon. Serve hot.

How To Dose Cannabis Tincture in Cocktails:

Tinctures are the hero of cannabis consumption methods. They are discreet, lung friendly, fast acting but long lasting, easily customizable for dosing, and they can mix well into food and drink. What more could you possibly ask for? Dosing cocktails (or food) with cannabis tincture is incredibly easy. All you have to do is add one to two drops per serving.

If you want something refreshing, but not as rich as an Irish Coffee, try Irish Lemonade. This drink is lip-smacking good with just the right amount of sweetness. Use CBD tincture in the lemonade and you’ll receive the relaxing benefits of cannabis without the high.

Irish Lemonade

Ingredients (2 Servings):

  • 2 ounces triple sec
  • 2 ounces Irish Whiskey
  • 2-4 drops Mary’s Medicinals CBD tincture
  • 1.5 ounces lemon juice (fresh is best)
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice (fresh is best)
  • 1 teaspoon fine granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon blackberry preserves
  • 2 drops green food dye (optional)
  • 3 ounces tonic water

In a cocktail shaker, toss all your ingredients in except the tonic water and fill the rest of the shaker with ice. Shake vigorously. (There should be foam.) Fill two cocktail glasses with ice, and pour the mixture over the ice through a strainer. Top each glass with tonic, and serve with a lime or lemon wedge.

You can transform your CBD/THC into Cannabutter to add to any of your favorite cooking and baking recipes, or you can purchase a  Levo—a sleek, little kitchen aid that is a decarboxylator and oil infuser in one. Follow the simple instructions for infusing oil or butter at the touch of a button. Try adding your cannabutter to this next recipe.

Chocolate Stout Cupcakes

Of all the beers, stout is the perfect one for desserts.

  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa, plus more for dusting finished cupcakes
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • Pinch fine salt
  • 1 bottle stout beer (recommended: Guinness)
  • 1 stick butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened at room temperature
  • 3/4 to 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 (1-pound) box confectioners' sugar

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the cocoa, sugar, flour, baking soda and salt.
  • In another medium mixing bowl, combine the stout, melted butter and vanilla. Beat in eggs, 1 at time. Mix in sour cream until thoroughly combined and smooth. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture.
  • Lightly grease 24 muffin tins. Divide the batter equally between muffin tins, filling each 3/4 full. Bake for about 12 minutes, and then rotate the pans. Bake another 12 to 13 minutes until risen, nicely domed, and set in the middle but still soft and tender. Cool.

Check out your local dispensaries for any specials they may be running for St. Patty’s Day. Last year California pot delivery company Eaze saw a 42 percent increase in pot orders on St. Patrick's Day, compared to the 18 percent surge that they usually see on Fridays, according to their State of Marijuana report, which compiled data from more than 250,000 California cannabis consumers and more than 5,000 survey respondents.

According to a report by Eaze, Californians are using marijuana on major "party" days instead of alcohol. More than 82 percent of people surveyed said that marijuana led them to reduce their alcohol intake, and 11 percent even said they've quit drinking entirely in favor of weed.

Weed is extremely popular in Ireland. Medical marijuana was recently legalized in the country, and about half of Irish citizens are down to make it legal for recreational purposes, too. But if you want to light up (assuming you're someplace where it's legal), you can do so knowing there's a whole slew of people out there enjoying the same kind of green St. Paddy's Day.Dublin has canceled its St. Patrick's Day parade for the second year in a row because of the COVID-19 pandemic. But this year organizers are planning a six-day virtual celebration and inviting the world to join in March 12 through 17 on a dedicated TV channel and website. "While we cannot gather on the streets for the St. Patrick's Festival Parade this March 17, we are reimagining how we bring to life the heart and soul of the national parade," organizers said in a statement.
