Submit!

The New Mexico Film Foundation, our state's premiere nonprofit film organization, is hosting its 2022 Indie Film Screening on March 20 at Guild Cinema. If you're a local filmmaker interested in getting your short film viewed and celebrated in front of a live audience, you have until the last-minute deadline of March 5 to submit your work. This year's first Indie Screening (of four) consists of two categories: Adult and Youth. In the Adult Category, all projects must be filmed in New Mexico and the "above the line" team (writers, directors, producers) must contain majority New Mexico residents. In the Youth Category, all projects must be filmed in New Mexico and the "above the line" team must contain majority New Mexico residents and be under the age of 17. Films must be under 10 minutes in length. Music videos are acceptable, as are film trailers. Those accepted will receive two free tickets to the event and an award acknowledging the achievement. To submit your short work, go to nmfilmfoundation.org/indie-screenings/.

Meow Wolf: The Movie

Santa Fe's famed art collective Meow Wolf is apparently starting work on its first narrative film project. The group behind the interactive funhouse/installation art exhibit known as The House of Eternal Return has expanded massively over the last couple of years, opening the Las Vegas Omega Mart in Feb. 2021 and Denver's Convergence Station in Sept. 2021. In February the New Mexico Film Office announced the start of the new "multimedia production" Meow Wolf Stream. "Meow Wolf is always up to something exciting, and New Mexico's well-established film, television and multimedia ecosystem provides just what they need to create the exciting, immersive multimedia experiences that are produced by this highly creative team," said Amber Dodson, director of the New Mexico Film Office. Although it's hard to tell exactly what Meow Wolf Stream might look like, it is being described as a "narrative-based multimedia piece." In announcing the start of production in Santa Fe, Meow Wolf Producer Jacqueline Delaney said she couldn't "reveal too much," but that the group's next exhibition project would be "an inspiring trip into the collaborative subconscious of Meow Wolf artists" and a "voyage into a strange psychic channel between worlds where creative ideas get lost and found." The production is expected to employ 55 New Mexico crew members and 10 New Mexico principal actors. Meow Wolf's last filmic outing was the highly regarded 2018 documentary feature Meow Wolf: Origin Story.

On the Road Again

PBS's popular "Antiques Roadshow" is coming to Santa Fe's Museum Hill on Tues. June 14 for an all-day appraisal event. Thanks to COVID, much of the show's production has been curtailed. The 27th season will only be stopping in five cities around the country, but three shows will be shot at each location. If you're a collector with an interesting (and potentially valuable) antique, you can apply for tickets. An extremely limited number of passes are being handed out for this tour. Fans can enter for a chance to win one pair of free tickets per household. To fill out an application and try your luck, go to pbs.org/roadshowtickets. Deadline for entries is Monday March 21 at 11:59pm PT.
