Guild Cinema (3405 Central Ave. NE) is having a weekend's worth of Halloween fun. It all starts Friday, Oct. 29 at 10:30pm with a special screening of the new horror thriller 13 Fanboy. The film follows the exploits of a dangerous fan who starts stalking his favorite actors from the Friday the 13th films and beyond. The cast includes a myriad of real-life actors and actresses from the Friday the 13th films as well as iconic scream queens playing fictionalized versions of themselves. Among the stars are fan favorites Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan, Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, Jason X), Corey Feldman (Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, Friday the 13th: A New Beginning, The Goonies, Stand By Me), Dee Wallace (The Howling, Cujo, Halloween, ET) Tracie Savage (Friday the 13th: Part III), Ron Sloan (Friday the 13th: A New Beginning), Judie Aronson (Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter) and Jennifer Banko (Friday the 13th VII, Texas Chainsaw Massacre III). The film's writer/director Deborah Voorhees (who, as an actress, starred in 1985's Friday the 13th: A New Beginning) will be there in person to introduce the film. Tickets are $8 general admission.
Also screening at Guild this weekend is newly restored print of Possession, Andrzej Zulawski's violent and surreal 1981 shocker about marital discord and doppelgängers. It stars Sam Neill and Isabelle Adjani and somehow won an award at the Cannes Film Festival before being banned in England as a "Video Nasty." The film is being co-presented by Dark Room Horror on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 29 and 30 at 6pm. For more info, go to darkroomhorror.com.
Finally, on Saturday, Oct. 30 Guild is showing off some local scares in the form of the short film Painted Lady. This 60-minute "documentary" comes from ghost-hunting web series "That's Some Scary Sh!t" and follows their investigation into The Painted Lady, a historic location near the Sawmill District recently resurrected as New Mexico's only "Bed & Brew." The local web series is turned loose on the property, poking into its turbulent past and current ghostly goings-on. A fun, fright-filled evening of ghost-hunting and hijinx ensues, featuring magician Jordan Jonas, ghost hunter Tommy Garcia and skeptical believer/TV host Chad Brummett. Tickets are $8 at the door.
New Mexico Comic & Film Expo hits the Albuquerque Convention Center (401 Second St. NW) Oct. 29 through 31. Among the media guests on tap for the weekend are reunited cast members of The Mighty Ducks (Brandon Adams, Matt Doherty, Garette Henson, Shaun Weiss), The Sandlot (Brandon Adams, Shane Obedzinski, Victor DiMattia, Tom Guiry, Marty York), The People Under the Stairs (Sean Whalen, Brandon Adams, Yan Birch, Kelly Jo Minter) and Fright Night (Amanda Bearce, William Ragsdale). General admission is $30 Friday, $40 Saturday, $35 Sunday ($5 children 5 to 13). A three-day adult admission pass will set you back $85. Photo opportunities and autographs are extra.
