ABQ'S Best Spots For Caffeine and Cramming

The school year is officially upon us. which means classes, labs, studying, late nights and if you’re a procrastinator, lots of cramming. Let’s be honest, as nice as the study spots are on campus, we all could use a change of scenery and some caffeine — especially for those long homework sessions. So The Paper. put together a list of some of the best coffee shops around campus.

Save your precious time for studying instead of pouring over reviews, trying to find the best coffee shops around campus and use our list instead.

Sueños Coffee Co.

Sueños Coffee Co. is new to the downtown area. Located conveniently below the Lobo Rainforest apartments, this mom-and-pop spot serves up coffee, refreshing drinks, fresh pastries and savory food.

Music bumps from the speakers to lift the atmosphere up – providing the perfect place to either study or clear your mind and take a break.

“It’s just kind of breaking out of the quiet, maybe stuffy atmosphere that maybe [students] only have in their room.” said Norma Hernandez, who owns and operates the coffee shop with her husband Alvaro “Al” Hernandez .

University of New Mexico students can get 10% off their order when they show their student I.D. and they are currently working with the school to make dining dollars eligible for their coffee shop.

What we tried: Cold brew coffee with sweet foam. The combination of sweet foam and coffee can’t be beat.

Humble Coffee Company

If you’re looking for a new study spot, but need a toned down and quiet spot, Humble Coffee Company on Lomas is the perfect place. Humble Coffee brews some of the best classic drinks around town. Enjoy some coffee (or tea) and study in their shop or order from their to-go window.

Looking for a bite to eat? Checkout their breakfast burritos or head to their location at 505 Central Food Hall to be surrounded by options.

What we ordered: Cortado. Simply a classic. Equal parts steamed milk and espresso. Nothing more, nothing less.

Satellite Coffee

An Albuquerque coffee staple; Satellite Coffee does not miss. Right across from UNM, within walking distance, You’ll find staff and students mingling at the coffee shop’s location on Central.

Students at the school of medicine can also find a convenient location on University. Both locations have cozy nooks to keep you caffeinated for your studies.

What we ordered: Black Velvet. Imagine getting punched in the face by caffeine – that’s what this drink is. The menu states that this drink is “Über caffeinated.” It’s sure to keep you going.

Little Bear Coffee

A modern coffee shop in the heart of Nob Hill.

It’s not rare that you’ll find coffee-drinkers typing away at their laptops or enjoying conversation with friends. Study at a barstool alone or at a table with a group.

This coffee shop has a range of espresso-based drinks, brewed coffee and teas. Check out their seasonal options as well.

What we ordered: Matcha latte. There’s no doubt that the summer’s heat has been killer. Cooling off with an iced matcha latte was the perfect solution.
