On Tuesday, Marianna Anaya, a New Mexico lobbyist, sent an open letter requesting the resignation of Democratic State Senator Daniel Ivey-Soto from the Senate due to allegations of sexual harassment of Anaya and other women.
In the letter distributed by her lawyer, Levi Monagle, Anaya alleges that Soto groped her in 2015 and admitted to it this past legislative session that ended last week. Anaya also accuses Ivey-Soto of stalling the Voting Rights Act she was advocating for.
Monagle stated that Anaya is not looking for monetary compensation and is not looking at pursuing criminal or civil charges. He also said that Anaya had submitted a formal complaint to the Legislative Council Services. Speaker of the House Brian Egolf said in a statement, “These are serious allegations, and I’m glad that Ms. Anaya felt comfortable making a complaint under the Anti-Harassment policy put into place in 2017. At this point, I can only state that I expect the process to move fairly and expediently.”
Anaya is a former staffer of Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham when MLG was in Congress. Anaya is also an organizer and does communications work for the Albuquerque Teachers Federation and is the Deputy Director for Progress Now.
The Paper. requested comment from Ivey-Soto but did not hear back as of press time.
